By now everybody knows of Kendrick Lamar. He’s one of the hottest emcees in the game right now, his first album good kid m.A.A.d city is gold certified, and MTV named him the hottest emcee of 2012. But what’s most impressive about Mr. Lamar is his ability to tell a story in his music. It is no easy feat to to tell a story from beginning to end like in good kid m.A.A.d city and still top charts with songs like “Poetic Justice,” “Swimming Pools,” and “Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe.” In a short time K. Dot has exploded onto the hip-hop scene and gained the respect of the rap elite; some have even called him “Tupac’s reincarnate.”

Kendrick Lamar recently sat down with Erykah Badu, one of the queens of soul, for an interview with Interview Magazine. In it we get a chance to hear about some of Kendrick’s influences, backstage protocol, and some background and insight of his past and how that has influenced his life and music. Kendrick also gives us his top ten rappers (it a good list it is). Checkout the full article and get to know Kendrick Lamar a little better right here.

“Probably one of the hardest things to do was to actually do something positive coming from that space. It was so easy for me to dabble in everything else that my homeboys was doing, just being in the middle of the fire. So I felt like that was the sacrifice—for me to come out of that and do something positive. The moment I made that decision to get in the studio and actually work and study the culture of hip-hop, then everything just started to open up and blossom for me.”
